CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES SYSTEM
(CDSS)
Job
Corps is an education and job training program
committed to helping people ages 16 through 24
succeed in promising careers. Job Corps provides valuable
educational opportunities and hands-on training to young
people serious about creating a better future for themselves.
Students
arrive at Job Corps with different needs and expectations.
Job Corps' Career Development Services System (CDSS)
is designed to help students achieve their individual
career and academic goals at their own pace while on
center.
The
four phases of Job Corps are:
OUTREACH & ADMISSIONS (OA):
Before You Arrive
During
the OA phase you will learn:
How Job Corps can start you on a career path
Details of life on center
Your responsibilities on center
Career training programs offered at your selected centers
CAREER
PREPARATION PERIOD (CPP): The First 60 Days
In CPP you will:
Acclimate to life in Job Corps
Learn employability, job search and computer skills
Work with staff to create and commit to a personal
career development plan
Visit and learn about local One-Stop centers
CAREER
DEVELOPMENT PERIOD (CDP): Career Training
In CDP you will:
Learn a career area
Achieve academic goals
Learn communication, problem-solving and social
skills
Continue to work on employability, job search
and computer skills
Begin your job search
Prepare for independent living
Graduate
CAREER
TRANSITION PERIOD (CTP): After You Graduate
In CTP graduates are ready to:
Begin a career
Find housing, transportation and support services
with the help of Job Corps counselors for up to 18 months after graduation
Stay in contact with Job Corps counselors, including
verifying eligibility for and responding to six - and
12-month survey requests
